Chhattisgarh Assembly Election Results 2023
The Chhattisgarh state elections of 2023 will hold immense significance in Indian politics. It will be a battle of nerves with the strongest parties aiming at control of the state's administration. Polls were conducted in two phases on Nov 7 and Nov 17, and the results will be announced on Dec 3, 2023.
While the 2018 elections were a game-changer ahead of the next general elections, the political climate in Chhattisgarh has become challenging for the ruling Congress party and Chief Minister Bupesh Baghel. Overcoming factionalism, addressing development concerns, and facing a resurgent opposition will determine their political future.
The result of the 2018 Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh was a major paradigm shift. The Indian National Congress (INC) claimed an unprecedented victory, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comprehensively.
INC won 68 seats out of 90, putting a decisive end to BJP's 15-year rule. Unfortunately, the BJP managed to secure only 15 seats, marking a remarkable decline in its foothold. The 2018 results also signalled the end of the Raman Singh era, the longest-serving BJP chief minister of any state, whose personal image and popularity could not offset the wave of anti-incumbency. In the post-election shuffle, INC's Bhupesh Baghel was appointed as the Chief Minister.
